Dear Polo Enthusiast :

The Horse Park Polo Club is taking a big step towards growing polo in the Bay Area by renovating the polo arena at the Horse Park in Woodside, a facility shared by the members of Horse Park Polo Club and the Stanford University Polo Club, training newcomers to the sport and intercollegiate competitors plus hosting regional tournaments. And we would like your help.

Here's a bit of background. As you may be aware, the original Horse Park polo arena was built over 15 years ago, primarily for wintertime polo, through the generosity of the local polo community including our club founder Tom Harris. The polo arena has also served the general CTETA Horse Park equestrian community as the best and safest arena to exercise and train in during the rainy months. Since its beginning, over 250 polo players have learned to play polo, many going on to higher levels of polo competition. And while the club has made strong efforts in making annual repairs, the life span of the sideboards and the drainage have ended. With continued strong interest in polo in our region, it's time to make a major renovation and enhancement to meet all current USPA arena polo standards.

The cost of rebuilding the arena with upgraded sideboards and improved drainage and footing is estimated at $140,000. To date, we have been able to fund $53,000 of this amount, leaving $87,000 as our current fundraising goal. In addition, the polo community is also donating valuable time and resources to the project. Gary Pollack, polo sponsor and enthusiast, is the general contractor on the project. And long time local polo player, Greg Atkinson, is working with the CTETA board as an advisor. Carleen Loveday is serving as the project manager liasing between the CTETA board and the contractors. Furthermore, CTETA's Chief Operating Officer and Manager and former interscholastic polo player, Stephen Hales, has already contributed to the project by arranging the removal of the existing footing and fence line in preparation for Gary's work to start.

To date we have raised over $122,000 to fund this project.

Additional funding is needed to pay for the completion of the project and
it's maintenance. We are progressing with the final phase of construction -
targeted for completion March 1.

We hope you can participate in helping us make this Northern California's
finest polo arena and all-weather equestrian training facility.

Thank you all for your support.

Elizabeth Caselton,
President
Horse Park Polo Club
