The USC Trojan Polo Team is
heading to the National Intercollegiate Polo Championship this
April in Texas! The Trojans fought hard at the Western Regional
Championships, and won both their preliminary game against Washington
State University, and the championship game versus Westmont College.
In addition, our #3 player, Himmat Singh, was elected to the
Western Region All-Star Team.
This is the first time in many years that the Trojans have had
an opportunity to compete for the National Intercollegiate Polo
Championship. It's been a long, hard, year and the players have
done their best to build a club and team that students and junior
polo players can be proud to be a part of.
The team faces its biggest challenge now, not only in the spirit
of competition, but also the enormous cost of traveling to Brushy
Creek Ranch in Burleson, Texas to compete for the national title.
For anyone who's ever been a student, you probably remember
a tight budget and lots of ramen. Pile the costs of polo for
a normal season on top of that and an un-planned trip to Texas
for five days, and you'll probably realize our problem. Hotels,
airfare, a rental car, meals, coaching costs, and equipment bills
are going to be enormous.
We need the help of generous patrons to help us offset the costs.
We hope to raise $5,000 through contributions. These funds
will directly fund the costs associated with sending the team
to Texas. Excess funds will apply to horse needs, such as blankets,
halters, etc.
Please help the USC Polo Team make it to Nationals. Our players
have worked long and hard to build a solid, competitive team,
but without funding, we may not be able to compete.
All donations are tax-deductible through the Collegiate Equestrian
Polo Association (CEPA), a non-profit organization dedicated
to helping junior players at both the intercollegiate and interscholastic
levels play polo. CEPA will then mail you a receipt for your
contribution. Under "Purpose of Gift," please check
"Collegiate Program Fund." Make all checks payable
to: Collegiate Equestrian Polo Association.
In addition, any donation of $50 or more will receive a signed
photo of the team holding the Western Division Championship trophy.
Please consider helping the USC Polo team reach our fundraising
goal of $5,000 as we set off to win the Intercollegiate National
Championship 2003. If you have any further questions, please
contact either Ted Sousa, Andres Huertas, or Eric Pahon.
Sincerely,
Ted Sousa

- 16 members already - I have two horses donated so far - one
made - one green - figure I need about 6 head to start out with

are going to need a rest this winter - they also need any kind
of tack (they are using mine right now) - helmets - etc. anything
to help start up a new University club - also working with new
members of our club and another local club - they need horses
to purchase - older, as sound as possible, horses that can teach
them the game - I will be in Davis for Turkey vacation and then
can get almost anywhere to look at horses with at least a 48
hour notice - live 2 1/2 hours from the nearest airport - any
help would be appreciated. thanks - Melissa Davis Joseph - La
Grande Polo Club - Eastern Oregon University Polo Club. Please
contact Melissa Davis via e-mail at mt_view_ee@yahoo.com.
The club up here is going really
strong with seven active scholastic members, and six active collegiate
members, and I expect those numbers to jump when Poly and Cuesta
start again in September.
The student teams could use any old boots, helmets, or knee guards
anyone would like to donate.... just contact me to arrange pickups
or shipping.

have bad trees, and we need more bridles for sure. The leather
