Player Requirements:
To play on the US Team, you
must be a citizen of the United States and have a valid, legal
passport. Make sure the passport is not going to expire during
your travel outside of the country. A visa is required and can
be obtained from any travel agent, the airline booking your travel,
or Australian Consulate.
To play in the World Polo Championships,
you must certify that you have not played in any world competition
in polo or in any other sport for any other country in the last
3 years.
Horses:
Horses will be provided at
Werribee. Tack will also be provided; however, if you wish to
bring your own saddles, you are welcome to do so but you must
clear it with the Australian Customs. We are researching the
procedure to bring your own saddles and will let you know what
we find out ASAP. Any equipment that you do take please take
care to clean thoroughly prior to departure and particularly
note to remove any mud from your boots before traveling to Australia.
Pony Management:
A polo manager will be provided
to manage each team's ponies. Experienced and caring grooms will
assist the manager. Veterinary care and a farrier will be available
on site. All ponies and horse care will be provided at no cost
to visiting teams.
Accommodations:
Friends and relatives of team
members are responsible for paying for their accommodations.
There are several alternatives to consider:
1. Good quality motel accommodation
is available at Werribee, 5 minutes by car from the polo fields,
at a cost of approximately $55USD/double room/night.
2. Hotel accommodations are available at the polo fields at a
cost of $130USD/double room/night.
3. A full range of hotel accommodation is available in Melbourne,
30 minutes from the polo fields.
4. Billeted private accommodation is available at no cost, approximately
1 hour from the polo fields.
As soon as we have more information
about arrival and departure dates, we will be contacting you
to plan your accommodations. We are working hard at raising money
and looking for free sponsorship, but no further details are
available in that regard at this point in time.
Transport:
Each team member will be provided
with one round-trip ticket to Melbourne, Australia. Exact departure
and arrival dates will be available from the team coach shortly.
We will take care of organizing each team member's travel to
and from Australia.
If friends and family members
are interested in traveling with you, they will be responsible
for the purchase of their own tickets. The official travel agent
for the Championships is:

Hospitality:

to assist each team in all matters.
Teams will be invited as complimentary
guests to the central hospitality tent for food and drinks during
the tournament.
Teams will also be invited
as complimentary guests to the Welcoming Party and to the World
Cup Ball.
Anti-Doping:
Each player is subject to doping
controls (urine analysis, blood tests, and other authorized techniques
for detecting prohibited substances or methods). These tests
will be administered by a representative of the World Anti-Doping
Agency (WADA) in conformity with the International Olympic Committee's
Anti-Doping Code.
Comportment:
Members of the US team have
the rare privilege of being ambassadors in representing our country.
Australia, the City of Melbourne, and the Australian polo community
welcome you with open arms. They look forward to your team and
supporters enjoying a great sport and making lasting friends.
Please bear in mind that you are representing the American polo
community at large and we are counting on you to put your best
foot forward at all times.
Sincerely,
Patrick M. Nesbitt
